Venice Beach in Los Angeles is a great place for people watching, with an interesting mix of tourists watching
the locals, and locals watching the tourists. The Ocean Front Walk boardwalk/promenade runs parallel to the sandy beach
and includes an eclectic mix of souvenir and specialty shops, restaurants, and street artists and is always full with pedestrians
and performing artists. Many of the locals represent the area's reputation for being a counter-culture conclave.
In addition to the usual beach activities of swimming and surfing, the area has basketball and volleyball courts, a
skateboarding area, and world-famous Muscle Beach, where Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger regularly worked out durign his body building
years. The Santa Monica-Venice bike path (between Washington Blvd. and Temescal Cyn. Road) also meanders along the beach, catering
to a wide range of bicyclers, in-line skaters, and joggers (who are actually prohibited from the bike path).

Paid parking is available at the beach parking lot (end of Washington Blvd.) and metered parking is available on Washington Blvd. and nearby side streets. Limited time free parking is available further away from the beach- but watch for posted time limits to avoid a parking ticket! |
